In the Name of Allaah, Ar-Rahmaan, Ar-Raheem...
The Question: Is it correct to read the Qur’aan from the Mus-haf during Taraaweeh?
The Answer: For the one who is incapable of reading from memory, then there is nothing wrong if he reads from the Mus-haf during the Taraaweeh prayer. This is because he will read the entire Qur’aan from its beginning to its end. So, if he isn’t a memorizer of the Qur’aan, then he may read from the Mus-haf. Some of the Salaf (righteous predecessors) used to do this.
Member of the Permanent Committee for Fataawa, al-‘Allaamah Shaykh Saalih bin Fawzaan al-Fawzaan, hafidhahullaah
The Question: What about reciting the Qur’aan from the Mus-haf (during prayer) Noble Shaykh?
The Answer: There is no objection in that - that which is correct is that there is no objection in that. So if he needed to recite from the Mus-haf because he hasn’t memorized the Qur’aan, then there is nothing wrong if he reads from the Mus-haf. It has been established that ‘Aa’ishah’s ( radiallaahu ‘anhaa) slave, Dhakwaan, used to lead her in prayer (in Ramadhaan), reading from the Mus-haf as mentioned by Bukhaaree (rahimahullaah) in a mu’allaq report.
Also, the original principle is that there is nothing wrong with this, and whoever forbids this, then he should bring forth evidence. The original principle has permitted recitation from memory and recitation from the Mus-haf. This is the original principle, and whoever says, “It is forbidden (to read) from the Mus-haf", then he should bring forth evidence, and the original principle is that there is no evidence. So he has forbidden the original principle, and it is the permissibility of reciting the Qur’aan from the Mus-haf. The mother of the believers has implemented this, and she is from amongst the most knowledgeable of people (radiallaahu ‘anhaa).

The noble Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) was asked: There is a mosque whose congregation is few (in number) and there isn’t anyone from (the congregation) who is capable of reciting from memory. So, can the one who wants to lead the congregation, read with the Mus-haf by looking at it during the prayer – the night prayer in Ramadhaan, for example?
The noble Shaykh responded by saying: Na’am (Yes). If the Imaam hasn’t memorize anything from the Qur’aan, then this action is considered permissible for him (to do) – that he reads with the Mus-haf and there is no prohibition upon him regarding that, because this action is (implemented) for the sake of finishing the prayer, and the action (implemented) to finish the prayer does not harm, and Allaah is the granter of success.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Indeed the shaytan has succeeded in leading many people astray from the straight path of Allaah. He promised this, as we were informed by our Lord - The Most High - when He said:
لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ثُمَّ لَآتِيَنَّهُمْ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَنْ شَمَائِلِهِمْ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَاكِرِينَ
I will indeed sit on Your straight path. Then I will approach them from the front, from behind, from the right and then from the left. You will find most of them to be ungrateful.
(Surah al 'Araaf:18)
From the countless tricks of the shaytan and his constant deception of the children of Aadam (may the blessings of Allaah be upon him) is that he seeks to divert the servant away from performing sincere repentance. He is keen to accomplish this through several means and sinister strategies.

We are currently collecting Zakaah to be distributed within the local community. During this blessed month of Ramadaan, many people have stepped forward with needs. To date, this year, we may have recieved in the region of $900 in total zakaah, no avg. we recieve $2500-$4000 from the entire community, this amount would not suffice six or seven familes in need for month. We believe this is, in part due to brothers/sisters sending zakaah overseas. We would remind you and encourage you strongly to pay your zakaah to the needy in your area (as it is intended) or else there will be no ability to facilitate the needs of those in need here in the area of Weston-Humber. You may drop off an envelope at the masjid @ the admin office/book store. Various fatawaa on zakaah: http://www.fatwaislam.com/fis/index.cfm?scn=sc&sc=9&c=2 |

In the Name of Allaah, Ar-Rahmaan, Ar-Raheem... Part of a tele-link the brothers had in ’07 on zakaah, and how it purifies one’s soul and wealth. The fact that the apportioned zakaah of an individual is not their wealth but rather something that belongs to the rightful people in need of zakaah, a purification of one's wealth, wealth that Allaah blessed him/her with - wealth that they could not have accumulated except for Allaah's mercy and wealth that could be removed if Allaah so wills. So take heed Muslims - Zakaah purifies your wealth! Identifying the Siraatul-Mustaqeem (2 CDs) CD: http://www.troid.org/store/product.php?productid=17891&cat=0&page=1 |

The Question: Does fasting have a collective benefit? The Answer: Na’am (Yes), it has its collective benefits, from them: The people feel that they are one Ummah, they (all) eat at the same time and they (all) fast at the same time. The rich realize the blessings of Allaah (upon them) and they sympathize towards the poor people. And, fasting minimizes the pitfalls (caused) by Shaytaan to Baani’ Adaam (son of Adaam). And, there is taqwaa (fear of Allaah) in fasting andtaqwaa (fear of Allaah) strengthens the ties between the individual members of society. [Fataawa as-Siyaam Shaykh Ibnu Uthaymeen, p24]

The Prophet’s (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) Guidance Regarding Fasting
Taken from Zaadul Ma’ad, 2/28-29 || Ibn Qayyim (rahimahullaah)1
The purpose behind fasting is to restrain the soul from desires and to wean it from those things which it has become accustomed to; and to balance the soul’s force of desire, so that it can be prepared to attain wherein lies the utmost degree of happiness and delight for the soul, and the acceptance of what purifies it for its eternal life. (By fasting) one curbs his hunger and thirst from its sharpness and intensity, and is reminded of the conditions of the hungry stomachs of needy people. (By fasting) one narrows the passageways of Shaytaan within the servant (of Allaah), by narrowing the passageways of food and drink. As well, it restrains the force of the limbs from giving way to its dominating nature of that which is harmful to it in this world and the hereafter. And, (fasting) subdues every limb and might of the soul from (following its) whims, and harnesses it by its bridle. For, surely (the fast) is the bridle of the muttaqoon [the righteous, those having taqwaa] and the shield of the warriors [a shield between them and the Hell-fire]. And, it is the (spiritual) exercise of the Abrar [the pious and righteous] and those nearest [to Allaah]. And, it is (done) for the Lord of the Worlds, out of all actions [implemented for Allaah’s sake]. For the fasting person does nothing; he merely abandons his desires, his food and drink for the sake of the One whom he worships. Therefore, (fasting) is abandoning those things beloved and desired by the soul, favoring instead Allaah’s love and contentment. And, it is a secret between the servant and his Lord, no one else aware of it, but Him. And the servants (of Allaah) might be aware of (his) outward abandoning from the things which breaks the fast. However, as for him abandoning his food, drink and desires for the sake of the One whom he worships, then that is something mankind is unaware of and, surely that is the reality of fasting.
1 translated by Umm Sufyaan
