Benefit: The Scholars or the Callers?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī comments on the verse below, clarifying an existing doubt:

شَهِدَ اللَّهُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ وَأُولُو الْعِلْمِ قَائِمًا بِالْقِسْطِ ۚ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
Allāh bears witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Him; and likewise, the angels and the people of knowledge bear witness: He who maintains justice, none has the right to be worshipped but Him, the All Mighty, the All Wise. [Surah al-ʿImrān, 3: 18]

Present in this verse is a refutation of some of those who ascribe to the daʾwah, who say: The caller (dāʿī) is better than the scholar. They use the argument that the caller is like the rain cloud, travelling from place to place, everyone benefits from it [i.e. the rain]. While the scholar is like a well, no one drinks from it except those who travel to it. Glorified is Allāh the Exalted! Are they more knowledgeable or Allāh? Who are the ones who testify to the oneness of Allāh [in this verse], the scholar or the caller? The scholar! Who are the inheritors of the prophets? The scholars, or the callers who travel from place to place? Some of them [i.e. callers] are not even able to recite Surah al-Fātihah correctly and do not know the pillars of al-Islām.

Corrupt reasoning and misinterpetation of the speech of Allāh and His Messenger (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) is the way of the people of innovation and desires; so be warned.

Benefit: How Do You Determine the Truth?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Muqbil al-Wādʿī mentioned: If your scale [in determining the truth] is based upon the majority, then the majority is dispraised. If your scale is based upon eloquence and fluency in speech, then, Allāh has described the hypocrites with persuasive tongues. Allāh mentions:

وَإِن يَقُولُوا تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ
And when they speak, you listen to their words [Surah al-Munāfiqūn, 63:4]

That which must be considered [in determining the truth] is recognizing the attributes of the people of truth. They are those who call the people to the book of Allāh and the Sunnah of His Messenger (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). They seek neither reward nor gratitude from the people (for this).

Benefit: Showing Outward Love for the Salaf and the Scholars Whilst Attacking the Salafīs and Defaming Them?

Q&A with Shaykh Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Banná: Egyptian Treasures in Refutation of Doubtful Manhaj Trolls

On the evening of Saturday, November 12th, 2017 (Safar, 23rd, 1439), our noble brother Shākir al-Afghānī had the pleasure of an audience with Shaykh Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Banná. After greeting the Shaykh and informing him of the activities at TROID in Toronto, Canada, and exchanging pleasantries, he mentioned the following doubts that are spread nowadays in order to split the ranks of the Salafīs (i.e. in Canada, USA, UK etc.).

Doubt #7: Showing Outward Love for the Salaf and the Scholars Whilst Attacking the Salafīs and Defaming Them

Questioner: O’ shaykh, some of the youth who have not studied have become victims of these new students who have studied a short time. They [the youth who have not studied] say: How can they [i.e. meaning young students] be fitnah makers or people of innovation if they have nothing but [outward] love for the likes of Shaykh Rabīʿ, Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb, Ibn Taymiyyah and the likes of them [from the Salaf]?

So these youth have not understood how they can be regarded as fitnah makers or people of innovation and misguidance.

Shaykh: In the name of Allāh, all praise is due to Allāh, and may the peace and blessings of Allāh be upon the Messenger of Allāh, ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam.

The people of sunnah love the people of sunnah; the Salafīs love the Salafīs. Therefore, how can they say that we are with the likes of Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb or Rabīʿ ibn Hādī while criticising other Salafīs? Rather you are not Salafīs! The Salafī does not speak ill of the Salafī even if he was young in age, or just a beginner [i.e. recently learned about Salafiyyah] or possess little knowledge. The Salafī loves all Salafīs, whether they be new or old.

As for the innovator, he may say Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb is a great man and that Rabīʿ ibn Hādī is a great man who we love, but at the same time speaking ill of others (salafīs). This does not benefit him, rather, he is untruthful. If he was truthful, he would have love for all Salafīs, young or old, new or seasoned.  

So this is a sign of the people of innovation! They say we are with Ibn Taymiyyah whilst speaking ill of the Salafīs. They say we are with Ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb whilst speaking ill of the Salafīs. They are not sincere in their ascription to Salafiyyah, rather, they are being deceptive. The (true) Salafī loves all of the Salafīs, both the new ones and the old ones. So fear Allāh and have love for the Salafīs and speak nothing but good about them. Do not speak ill of them and cause fitnah for them and for yourselves. May Allāh bless you.

A Reflection on the History of TROID 

Our esteemed brother, Ustādh Abū al-Ḥasan Mālik al-Akhdar, reflects on visiting TROID for the first time in 15+ years. He speaks vividly about the early days of TROID and the daʿwah in Canada. He mentions the struggles to establish the current Islamic Centre and Masjid al-Furqān, from the early days of congregating in a small office, cramming a dozen or so brothers on the floor, leaning forward, lending their ears towards computer speakers broadcasting telelinks on Paltalk. Collecting and spreading cassettes. He mentions the joy he and others had visiting this small space in Canada, to spend time with beloved brothers for the sake of Allāh, united, striving, not worrying about numbers or buildings etc. just daʿwah, minute by minute, day by day, building. Two decades of unity, togetherness and striving to connect the people to the scholars, to spread their works by way of articles, audio, live lessons, seminars, telelinks, publications and more. We ask Allāh to reward Abū al-Ḥasan for his tutelage, his mentoring, his companionship, from 1998 till present.
