Benefit: Where Did the Term “Jāmiyyah” Come From?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

The term “Jāmiyyah” [i.e. jamīs]—just like the term “Wahhābiyyah” [i.e. wahābīs]—are names which the people of Ḥizbiyyah—from the Ikhawīs and other than them—coin Ahl al-Sunnah, the Salafīs, those who are upon the way of the way of the pious predecessors, those upon moderation and the middle way, so that the people may turn away from their upright daʿwah upon the Book and the Sunnah.

This name [Jāmiyyah or Jamīs] first appeared during the invasion of Ṣaddam Hussein in Kuwait and the other nearby nations. Thus, the scholars disapproved of this transgression and due to this a number of people who were supporting Ṣaddam from the Ikhwanīs and Ḥizbīs stopped. Furthermore, Shaykh Muḥammad Amān al-Jāmī was among those who took it upon himself to refute these transgressions.
