Benefit: Accept a Taʿdil (Praise) over a Jarḥ (Detailed Criticism)..with a Proposal for Your Daughter?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Abū ʿUways (rahimahullāh), the late Imam of Masjid Raḥmah, Newark, USA, explains with some emphatic examples, the reality of weighing a jarh (detailed criticism) against a taʿdīl (general praise). As was the intelligent style of our noble brother, he made crystal clear the lunacy of counterbalancing or elevating a general statement of praise for an individual above a clear warning or criticism. He asks: would you accept the taʿdīl (general praise) of a brother who wishes to marry your daughter over the jarh (detailed criticism) against him in the community? However, some wish us to accept this approach when dealing with innovators (Halabī et al). A 2 minute clip of clarity to help combat the next time you hear: But Shaykh so and so praised him.

Benefit: Accuracy in Transcribing When Publishing and Its Importance

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Advice from Mūsá Richardson to transcribers on how to, and how not to, transcribe the works of the scholars. As he mentions, “sloppy people who go to YouTube and turn audio into a published book.” From honouring the scholars is to approach them about their recordings (for review) before turning them into printed English books etc.

Benefit: Actions Speak Louder than Words

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Muḥammad Amān ibn ʿAlī al-Jāmī (رحمه الله) stated: “Friendliness, gentleness, pleasant speech, and good deeds appeal to people.”

Benefit: Activeness in Calling the People to the Truth

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Ibn Bāz mentioned: That which is required from the people of knowledge is that they spread it (knowledge) and that they do not let the people of falsehood be more active than them in this. Rather, they are obligated to be more active than the people of falsehood by clarifying the truth and calling towards it wherever they may be; in the streets, in the cars, in the planes, in space shuttles, in their homes and any place they may be. It is upon the people of knowledge to forbid the evil in the best manner possible, to teach the people in the best way possible, with a good approach, kindness and forbearance. Allāh said:

Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best.
[Sūrah al-Naḥl, 16:125]

Benefit: Actualise the Sunnah - Break Your Fast With Dates

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Khālid ibn Ḍaḥwī al-Dhufayrī mentioned:

We would like to shed light on an error many of those who break their fasts fall into, due to their lack of attention. It is that people have become accustomed to breaking fast by drinking. They may drink milk with dates while milk is a liquid and dates are solids. Liquids enter the stomach before dates. Therefore, what has he broken his fast with, with milk not dates. So make sure to eat, chew and swallow dates (first) so that they can reach your stomach, so that you may be one who actualises the Prophetic Sunnah.
