Benefit: Adjusting Your Dīn to Please People Opens the Door to Many Evils

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Abū Idrīs reminds us of the statement of Imām al-Shafiʿī: If you were to try to please all of the people it would be impossible. Therefore, make your actions and statements for Allāh alone. If you adjust your dīn to please individuals (just so you can network etc.), then you compromise your whole dīn. Our religion is based only upon pleasing Allāh and nothing else!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

A question asked regarding one of the servant-boys of Yahyá al-Ḥajūrī, the ḥizbī innovator from Yemen. This youngster (ʿAbd al-Fattaḥ al-Ṣumālī) has taken to spreading the hateful brew of al-Ḥajūrī amongst some of the Ṣumālī youth in Toronto at the Bukharī Centre.

Benefit: Advice to Young Students Going Overseas - It Can Make or Break You!!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

In the farewell admonition form the seminar: Be in this World as a Stranger, Abū Idrīs addresses the following question:

[Q]: What is your advice regarding young students who are studying overseas or will go to study, considering that ṭalib al-ʿilm (seeking knowledge) is something that seems to either make or break a person. So, either these students go over to study and are with the people of Sunnah and are united or sometimes, they are with the people who oppose the Sunnah. Due to the fact that you were in al-Madīnah for a number of years, what can you advise?

Abū Idrīs reflects on his time studying overseas, how so many students went over, sometimes with good intentions but then something happened, such that these students connected with the wrong people (at the onset), those who appeared to them to be upon the truth but instead (slowly and subtly) turned them against the Salafis, then later on they go to war against their teachers and communities. He discusses the patterns of this calamity and how a young student can be safe from this. Abū IdrIs hammers home to importance of being with the scholars, their students and the upright students from the West (those well known and recommended by the scholars). He continues by discussing the fitnah that some students endure when they finish the al-ʿArabīc programme at the university, that once they comprehend some al-ʿArabīc, they become cocky, over-confident, independent, focusing less and less on the scholars. Then they turn their attention back home, they observe the people and see them beneath their feet, that no one is more knowledgeable than them! That the students of knowledge (in the West) are no better than them! In fact they may be better than them! Self-amazement and deception. Then the method becomes to acquire as much certification as possible (valuing this over actual tazkiyāt by sitting with the scholars and working under their directive). An important advice for both young students studying or intending to study, and likewise for communities to understand what can happen to their young students overseas.

Benefit: Again? I Can't Take All This Fitnah!!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Ustādh Abū Ḥākīm touches on the reality that most fitan (trials) are not realised by the people until the tail-end of their exposure. What appears to be a sudden occurrence is actually something that was brewing for some time, something that the scholars may have been addressing behind close doors. Secondly, many fall into emotional judgements, "not again", "I can't take this anymore" or other analysis devoid of knowledge or patience. The speaker explains that fitnah (trials) will come, wave upon wave, and to seek a utopian existence where no trials occur is to misunderstand the principles of the Salafī methodology, the qawāʿid (principles) are not rooted.  Lastly, he clarifies the need for knowledge, patience and forbearance in times of fitnah, explaining the characteristics of the patient astute Salafī versus the mustʿajil (hasty) reckless people who contain the lethal combination of ignorance and arrogance, taking to their blogs and other ranting platforms, increasing themselves in ignorance and harming others.

The benefit is excerpted from the lecture entitled: Ḥidāyah (Guidance) and Its Fruits, from the 2018 Summer Seminar: The Methodology of the Salaf in Times of Fitnah.

Benefit: Ahl al-Sunnah Are Not Harmed by Those Who Oppose Them!!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

An important benefit from the khuṭbah at TROID (Masjid al-Furqān) entitled: The Evils of Plotting and Disunity. The noble speaker, Abū Khadījah states:

“They were once with us, in this masjid (TROID), next to us, praying with us, that (you would feel) we are united, (upon) the haqq, we will spread the daʿwah together, you pray with him, year in, year out, then a time comes, that that same individual disappears from your presence, you don’t see him again, then you realise that he is plotting against the same people that he was praying next to, foot to foot, heel to heel, fighting against them, warning against them, gathering the people against them…to harm who? The people you’ve been commanded to unite with!!! but الحمد لله ‘they are not harmed by those who oppose them or differ with them or abandon them!!’”

“We should know what unites us and what divides us…don’t allow individuals to come into your ranks that they were once with you then they divided from you and then they try to recruit you to divide the ranks of the people of Sunnah…do not allow that!”

“The haqq is one, the people (of haqq) are united, they are the ones who connect you to the scholars…they love the Sunnah…they will not compromise the Sunnah…do not sell your religion (short).”

“Do not open your hearts to argumentation, it leads a person to change his religion.”

“Do not deceive yourselves for you will only harm yourself.”

“May Allāh preserve and protect our communities, from the people of deviation, from the people of bidʿah, from those individuals who come upon our ranks to cause confusion and splitting amongst our ranks, so much so that brothers who used to love each other for the sake of Allāh now hate each other, do not be swayed, do not be like feathers in the breeze, know the truth, stick to the truth and do not compromise the truth!!!

Benefit: Al-Albānī: May Allāh Beautify You with the Beard

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

On an occasion while Shaykh al-Albānī was ill, a doctor who was clean-shaven visited him. After giving the Shaykh his medicine and on his way to leave, he said to the Shaykh:

“Make duʿāʾʾʾʾ for me Shaykh!”

So Shaykh al-Albānī replied:

“May Allāh beautify you with that which He has beautified the men with [i.e. the beard]”.
