Advice for Educating the Muslim Children

  Abū ʿAbdullāh Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī

The first advice from the book entitled ‘Naṣīḥatī li-Nisā’ (My Advice to the Women), authored by Umm ʿAbdillāh al-Wādiʿīyyah, the daughter of the late Imām of Yemen, Al-ʿAllāmah Muqbil bin Hādi al-Wādiʿī -raḥimahullāh - An introduction to some of the primary responsibilities of the husband and the wife in an Islamic marriage, followed by twenty-one points with proofs and evidence from the Qurʾān and authentic sunnah on the topic of raising children.

Benefit: "Follow the Religion of Ibrāhīm Ḥanīfā" (What Is Ḥanīfiyyah?)

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

In Sūrah al-Naḥl, Allāh says, the meaning of which is: "Then, We have sent the revelation to you: 'Follow the religion of Ibrāhīm Ḥanīfā and he was not of the Mushrikīn'" [Sūrah al-Naḥl, 16:123]. Allāh mentions Ḥanīf in His Book many times. In addition to that, in the aforementioned verse, Allāh commands us to follow the religion of Ibrāhīm Ḥanīfā. What does Ḥanīf mean, both linguistically and in Allāh's legislation? What does Ḥanīf have to do with Prophet Ibrāhīm ʿalayhī sʿalám? How can we obey Allāh in this command? Listen to our brother, Abū ʿAbdillāh Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī, as he provides answers to these questions from the explanation of the book, The Three Fundamental Principles, as explained by Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī and Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān.

Benefit: Inciting Muslim Youth Towards Jiḥād and Financing Them Without the Permission of the Leaders

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Al-Fawzān, a member of The Permanent Committee Of Scholars, Saudi Arabia, was asked:

Is it permissible to notify the appropriate authorities upon individuals who we know are inciting the youth to go and (fight) Jiḥād and providing them with the funds without the permission of the leaders; and what is your advice to these kinds of people?

Answer:

Firstly, they should be advised. If they accept this advice and cease these activities then all praise is due to Allāh. If they do not accept this (advice) then in order to prevent them from harming the Muslims and the Muslim children, those in charge should be informed (of their behaviour) so that they can seize them. This person sends the Muslim children to battlegrounds and to destruction for no purposeful reason and he sits here. It is amazing that some of them deliver sermons where they get over emotional, and they encourage and send the Muslim children whilst they themselves sit in their houses, eating and drinking. All of this is unacceptable and rejected but this is just an example of their astonishing inconsistency.1

Benefit: Instagram and the Vanity of Social Networks

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

A brief reminder from Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī concerning Instagram and the love of displaying oneself on social networks, sinning and showing off one's sins. The noble speaker reminds the listeners to remember death: the destroyer of desires. How lowly is it to not only sin but to show off one's sins, with no shame, no fear, no realisation of the return to Allāh.

Benefit: Lenient with Ahl al-Bidʿah, Harsh with Ahl al-Sunnah!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Lenient with Ahl al-Bidʿah,, Harsh with Ahl al-Sunnah! - A Signpost of the Hidden Ḥizbī?

The following lecture was conducted in 2002, almost 10 years ago. It reflects the position of Ahl al-Sunnah regarding innovation and its people. It illustrates the efforts of the Salafī duʿāt in the West to defend this noble religion and the fact that the same type of arguments (to water down al-Manhaj as-Salafī) existed then and before then, the manner in which the argument is made is all that changes. Same impostors, different disguises. So today, like then, we see the people expanding the raḍīus of 'al-Salafīyyah' to include Ahl al-Bidʿah, and the Hizbiyyeen, we see them criticizing the Salafī, sympathetic with the ḥizbī, searching after the faults of ahl al-sunnah (line by line, statement by statement) yet lenient and gentle with their opponents and enemies of the Salafī Da'wah. The following contains quotes from the lecture by Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī entitled, Advice to the Salafīs of the West Concerning Jarh wa-al-Taʿdīl (Criticism and Praise): Look at the wise insight of the noble scholar, Shaykh Rabīʿ Ibn Hādī al-Madkhalī: "And strangely you find the youth becoming [audio unclear] with the people of innovation where they raise their banners and carry their defence and they defend them and aid them, and it is the case where their tongues turn to Ahl al-Sunnah and they attack Ahl al-Sunnah but as for Ahl al-Bidʿah, and Misguidance, they make excuses for them and defend them!" This statement from his book written over a decade ago, it is as if he saw the army approaching from a distance and warned the townsfolk in advance! Is this not what we see today? Abū ʿAbdullāh mentions: "Now the scales have switched, and now we see those people [who used to be with us] harsh upon Ahl al-Sunnah, their tongues quick to move, easy to move against ahl al-sunnah and to backbite and slander them but they seek excuses from the people of shubuhaat (doubts) and desires…" "…so a Salafī brother, they will say, he speaks too much about the people of innovation, he's harsh, he deals too much in jarh wa-al-taʿdīl, he is hadaadee (extreme) but when one comes towards who cooperates with the ḥizbiyyoon, they say to him 'you cannot speak about these matters for they are for the ʿUlamāʾ, O Miskīn, O Jāhil, Do you not know that you have made jarh of the Salafī, when you say that he [the Salafī] has backbitten (when he speaks about ahl al-bidʿah), this is (actual) gheebah (backbiting) but like we said, the scale has changed, and now it has come a time that people are asking us to be soft and lenient with ahl al-bidʿah and ahwā and harsh against ahl al-sunnah." So the da'wah is one, has not changed, the enemies of ahl al-sunnah, change colours like a chameleon, new rhetoric, old agenda. From the lectures entitled, Advice to the Salafīs of the West Concerning Jarh wa-al-Taʿdīl (Criticism and Praise)

Benefit: Our Methodology When Differing Occurs

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī discusses the correct methodology of handling differing, particularly those who have a sword-sharp tongue against the Salafis whilst they make excuses for Ahl al-Bidʿah. He concludes by warning people to watch their tongues, to fear Allāh and to know that everything is recorded, that if they knew the danger they were in (by attacking Ahl al-Sunnah) they would hold their tongues.

Benefit: Salafiyyah Is a Daʿwah Distinct from Ahl al-Bidʿah

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Let the reader compare the approach to daʿwah of the late Imām of Yemen, Muqbil Ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī (raḥimahullāh), in comparison with the likes of Abū Usamah and those whom he praises, who line up alongside people of innovation and ḥizbiyyah, praising them and being silent about their innovation. The words of the scholars speak volumes:

Ḥasan Ṣumāli recounts:

"I close with a piece of advice that I hope will benefit Abū Usāmah and his likes, that I heard directly from the Imām of Ahl al-Sunnah, our Shaykh, Muqbil Ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī (d. AH 1421) when he said,

'The call of the people of the Sunnah in Yemen did not spread, or from the greatest reasons for the spread of the call of the people of the Sunnah in Yemen is that they distanced themselves from every innovator, and they do not care, even if this person [whom they abandoned] had once studied in Dammāj, such as ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥāshidī, ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Raymī, Muḥammad al-Baydānī, Muḥammad al-Mahdī and ʿAqīl al-Maqṭarī...

It is incumbent to be distinct and clear [in one's call] and it is incumbent to stay far away from the innovators and to warn against them.'"1

Benefit: Treat Your Wife How You Want Your Daughter to Be Treated

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said:

"...Know that when you deal and interact with your wife then it is mandatory that you think of a [scenario] where a man is the husband of your daughter. How does he treat her? Would you be pleased for him to treat her with harshness and sternness? The answer is no. Therefore, do not be content with treating the daughter of another person in a fashion that you would not be pleased for your daughter to be treated. This principle should be known by all people."

Benefit: What Do We Say About ISIS?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Ḥasan al-Sumālī discuses ISIS, the false-claimants to an "Islamic State" and leadership over the Muslims. He explains that they are  Khawārij (renegades). They are those who the Prophet Muḥammad (sallallāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) labelled "dogs of the hellfire." The speaker continues: it is not permissible to feel sympathy for them...these individuals have ruined the image of Islām more than anyone with millions of dollars could have achieved, through their filthy and barbaric actions. Finally the speaker highlights that ISIS (and those like them) are bringing their fight not soley to the West but their major concern is to fight and overthrow Muslim rulership in the Muslim lands as evident through their countless murders of Muslims in Iraq and Syria. Their claim is Islām but their actions are those of violent political revolutionaries. he finishes by mentioning numerous names of the Salafī scholars who have academically annihilated ISIS, al-Qaida, Usamah bin Laden etc.

Many questions from Muslims, young and old, are based on the topic of unity among Muslims. It is often asked, "Why don't all the mosques come together with the common objective of helping the youth?" Our brother, Abū ʿAbdillāh Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī, comprehensively addressed this important question and clarifies some misconceptions on this topic.
