In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz (رحمه الله) stated: “Publicising the rulers’ faults and mentioning their errors on the pulpits is not from the methodology of the Salaf as it [only] leads to discord and revolutions.”
قال: "ليس من منهج السلف التشهير بعيوب الولاة، وذكر ذلك على المنابر؛ لأن ذلك يفضي إلى الانقلابات، وعدم السمع والطاعة في المعروف".

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
Shaykh Sulaymān al-Ruḥaylī (حفظه الله) said: "Mankind will continue to be upon goodness as long as they revere the rulers and the scholars. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Glorifying Allāh involves respecting the aged Muslim, the just ruler, and the one who never forgets the Qurʾān after memorising it and is moderate when pronouncing its letters.' [Reported by Abū Dāwūd, and Shaykh al-Albānī authenticated it.] Therefore, respecting the rulers is legislated as there are numerous Aḥādīth to support this. Consequently, revering them is from the foundations of Ahl-Sunnah wa-al-Jamā‘ah."
