Benefit: Advice to Young Students Going Overseas - It Can Make or Break You!!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

In the farewell admonition form the seminar: Be in this World as a Stranger, Abū Idrīs addresses the following question:

[Q]: What is your advice regarding young students who are studying overseas or will go to study, considering that ṭalib al-ʿilm (seeking knowledge) is something that seems to either make or break a person. So, either these students go over to study and are with the people of Sunnah and are united or sometimes, they are with the people who oppose the Sunnah. Due to the fact that you were in al-Madīnah for a number of years, what can you advise?

Abū Idrīs reflects on his time studying overseas, how so many students went over, sometimes with good intentions but then something happened, such that these students connected with the wrong people (at the onset), those who appeared to them to be upon the truth but instead (slowly and subtly) turned them against the Salafis, then later on they go to war against their teachers and communities. He discusses the patterns of this calamity and how a young student can be safe from this. Abū IdrIs hammers home to importance of being with the scholars, their students and the upright students from the West (those well known and recommended by the scholars). He continues by discussing the fitnah that some students endure when they finish the Arabic programme at the university, that once they comprehend some Arabic, they become cocky, over-confident, independent, focusing less and less on the scholars. Then they turn their attention back home, they observe the people and see them beneath their feet, that no one is more knowledgeable than them! That the students of knowledge (in the West) are no better than them! In fact they may be better than them! Self-amazement and deception. Then the method becomes to acquire as much certification as possible (valuing this over actual tazkiyāt by sitting with the scholars and working under their directive). An important advice for both young students studying or intending to study, and likewise for communities to understand what can happen to their young students overseas.

Benefit: Encouraging Our Youth To Be Enthusiastic about Islām

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣālih al-ʿUthaymīn said: In reality, that which is most upright, is that we encourage our youth to be enthusiastic about Islām, not for their countries, because having enthusiasm for a country or nationality and the likes of it is not required when you have enthusiasm for the religion of Allāh, the Mighty and Exalted.

It is for this reason that the companions (raḍī Allāhu ʿanhum) left their countries after the Islamic conquests, they left to live in Kūfa, Baṣrah, Shām and Miṣr, because the Muslim country is the one that is built upon its religion.

Benefit: Humble Yourself: Don't Speak Without Knowledge

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Abū Idrīs, during this past Spring's seminar in Toronto, Canada, discusses the issue of speaking without knowledge. The Salaf would shy away from speaking, fearing that they may speak without knowledge. Today, every young upstart wishes to grab the microphone and speak/lead. Some points of benefit.

Benefit: Inciting Muslim Youth Towards Jiḥād and Financing Them Without the Permission of the Leaders

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Al-Fawzān, a member of The Permanent Committee Of Scholars, Saudi Arabia, was asked:

Is it permissible to notify the appropriate authorities upon individuals who we know are inciting the youth to go and (fight) Jiḥād and providing them with the funds without the permission of the leaders; and what is your advice to these kinds of people?

Answer:

Firstly, they should be advised. If they accept this advice and cease these activities then all praise is due to Allāh. If they do not accept this (advice) then in order to prevent them from harming the Muslims and the Muslim children, those in charge should be informed (of their behaviour) so that they can seize them. This person sends the Muslim children to battlegrounds and to destruction for no purposeful reason and he sits here. It is amazing that some of them deliver sermons where they get over emotional, and they encourage and send the Muslim children whilst they themselves sit in their houses, eating and drinking. All of this is unacceptable and rejected but this is just an example of their astonishing inconsistency.1

Benefit: Knowledge Is to Be Taken from the ʿUlamāʾ Not from the Ignorant Ones

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

He incurs the people to return to the Scholars for knowledge (and those whom they recommend). He explains the pathways to knowledge in contrast to the pretenders.

Benefit: Trials Faced by Some of the Muslim Youths Today

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Muḥammad Amān ibn ʿAlī al-Jāmī (رحمه الله) stated:

From the trials that some of our youths are faced with are:
[1] Hastiness to excommunicate Muslims
[2] Hastiness to accuse Muslims of heresy and misguidance
[3] Becoming quickly absorbed in dishonouring others

Benefit: Why Don't All the Mosques Come Together and Solve the Problems of the Youth?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Many questions from Muslims, young and old, are based on the topic of unity among Muslims. It is often asked, "Why don't all the mosques come together with the common objective of helping the youth?" Is this the unity Allāh commanded us with? Why is there so much differing amongst the Muslims? Our brother, Abū ʿAbdillāh Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī, comprehensively addressed this important question and clarifies some misconceptions on this topic. Take a listen to this response and understand the reality of unity. May Allāh guide you.

Benefit: Youth Who Claim to Love Salafiyyah Whilst Criticising Salafī Centres and Their Elders?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Questioner: How do we deal with youth who love Salafīyyah but speak ill of the Centre’s administration and those who established/organised it, also they do not accept advice from their elders.

Answer: The Shaykh began by saying, “No, tell them do not do this, it is not from the akhlāq of the Salafīs, they have opposed the Salafīs (in this matter) the Salafī follows the manners of the Salaf. This is from the affairs of Ahl al-Bidʿah”…

”...Are they not the best people you can go to (in your land)?  Is there better than them which you can go to (in your land)? If there is then go...”

The Shaykh then went on to ask those who create fitnah and speak ill of the brothers at the markaz, do you want to take their places and make yourself look like you are more knowledgeable then them? If you have knowledge then proceed with it but if you do not have knowledge then learn!

Questioner: No Shaykh, these youth don't have knowledge, they are new to Salafīyyah!

Shaykh Ḥasan continued:

“They don't know anything, if they knew and understood Salafīyyah, then they wouldn't speak like this. If there are scholars with you, then learn from the scholars and stick to them, may Allāh reward them.”

The shaykh went on to emphasise learning manners and possessing knowledge so that the people respond to your daʿwah and say the Salafīs they are polite and knowledgeable people, then they will want to be like you.The Shaykh said let him talk to me on the phone (the ones who are causing trouble and speaking ill of the brothers at the centre) I will respond to them.

Focus on the Youth: The Importance of al-Istiqāmah

  Abū Khadījah ʿAbd al-Wāḥid

A beautiful lecture concerning the importance of the tasfīyah (purification) and tarbīyyah (education) of our youth, the many difficulties they face today, and raising our children not only upon keeping them away from the various types of shubuḥāt (doubts) and shaḥawāt (desires), but rather alongside this, cultivating and educating them and building upon this with beneficial knowledge in order to protect them from going astray.

How Precious Time Is to the Servant

  Shaykh ʿAbdullāh al-Bukhārī

You must be very careful about your time and how it is used. Use it in what benefits you. A day will come and you will be asked about how you used your time! There is also a small beneficial question and answer session at the end.

Is it Permissible for a Brother to Marry a Righteous Muslim Sister Despite His Father's Disapproval?

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Banná

[Q]: The first question our brother goes on to ask is, "We have a young brother here with us and he’s 18 years of age, he would like to marry a sister who is not from his tribe but his father refuses him whilst his mother and father have divorced and he’s living with his mother, what should he do?"
