Benefit: Give What You Can O Salafī!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

An admonition from the late Abū ʿUways (raḥimahullāh) to the community to give...to give before the time comes when there will be no one to give zakāh to. He laments how we used to spend money and support frivilous causes in jahilliyah or before coming to the Sunnah. He also gives an example of the one who claims to love Salafīyyah but does not want to give to the masjid because he doesn't agree with some of the people on the shūrah or how they run the masjid. He asks: you don't see it, ilm-online (telelinks), students of knowledge overseas, connections to the schoalrs etc (the Shaytān is real!)? A straight-talking clear advice about giving and not wastintg the opportunity to aid the daʿwah.

Benefit: Using Zakāt al-Māl to Benefit the Masjid?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

A question was posed in the Kashf al-Shubuhāt class on zakāt al-māl:

[Q]: A masjid here in Canada claims they have "fatwas" from a group of scholars permitting Canadians and those in non-Muslim lands to give their zakāh to the masjid, meaning that it can be used to build or further the masjid. Who are the ones eligible for zakāt al-māl, and could it be ever allowed for mosques to keep the money of zakāt al-māl?

The question above is addressed in the audio benefit. Also, one should read Citations of Consensus Regarding the Spending of Zakāh on General Charities and Shaykh Ibn Bāz on Spending Zakāh Money to Build Masjids and Schools.

Benefit: Zakāh Purifies So Don't Hoard Your Wealth!!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Part of a tele-link organised by Saʿīd al-Habashī (raḥimahullāh) conducted in the summer of '07 with the noble Shaykh, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Mohi al-Dīn on zakāh and how it purifies one's soul and wealth. The fact that the apportioned zakāh of an individual is not their wealth but rather something that belongs to the rightful people in need of zakāh, a purification of one's wealth, wealth that Allāh blessed him/her with - wealth that they could not have accumulated except for Allāh's mercy and wealth that could be removed if Allāh so wills. So take heed Muslims - zakāh purifies your wealth! Translated by Mūsá Richardson.

Zakāt al-Fiṭr: What Is a Sāʿ? What Is a Mudd?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

With ʿĪd al-Fiṭr fast approaching, how is zakāt al-fiṭr measured? A lot of information is floating around the internet about it. What is a saa'? What is a mudd? What was the Prophetic tradition regarding this?

...This is the mudd that the Prophet (may Allāh raise his rank and grant him peace) was speaking about when he prayed, "O Allāh!  Put blessings in our saa' and our mudd!" This was collected by the two shaykhs (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). Further, he (may Allāh raise his rank and grant him peace) used to make wuḍūʿ using this mudd, and he used to take a bath using a saa'.
