Audio Playing in Browser/Annoying? was created by troid.org admin
Some users on troid.ca note that when they play an audio (MP3), it plays in their browser and this can be annoying since they would like to listen to audio and continue browsing.

This issue is browser specific, by default:

1. Internet Explorer - uses Windows Media Player to handle audio
2. Safari - uses Itunes to handle audio
3. Firefox - uses browser plugin to play audio in the browser
4. Chrome - uses browser plugin to play audio in the browser

Traditionally, browsers did not use java applets to play audio in the browser, FireFox and Chrome have for some time now. Internet Explorer (owned by Microsoft) and Safari (owned by Apple) use their operating system software to handle audio.

For those who use IE or Safari as their browser of choice, then you will not have this problem.

Fix for Firefox:

For Firefox, there is a preference change to avoid this annoyance:

In Firefox, go to Preferences, Applications, and location audio (MP3) and change the application preference from Quicktime plugin to an audio player on your computer (i.e. Itunes or Windows Media Player or VLC etc.)

For Chrome, I haven't found a solution, users of Chrome may need to download the audio and play it or change browser as there doesn't seem to be a solution to this, some discussion exists here: www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/th...cae5fee95b06eb&hl=en
