Reflections on Studying with Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hadī
A brief but nevertheless beneficial and inspiring kalimah delivered to the brothers at TROID in the late 1990s/early 2000s by our brother Abū al-Ḥasan Mālik before the death of Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī raḥimahullāh
Abū al-Ḥasan Mālik reflects on one of the best experiences of his life, studying under none other than the virtuous scholar and shaykh, Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wadi’ī rahimahullāh. He makes note of the many virtues of Shaykh Muqbil, from them the shaykh’s unwavering will and his staunch policy of knowledge that never stops regardless of the day (i.e., Jūmūʿah, ʿĪd), month (Ramaḍān etc.), or any other time of the year. Our brother also touches on the generosity and support the shaykh had for his students, especially the students from overseas. He (Abū al-Ḥasan) said, “He will meet you more than halfway in regards to helping you and encouraging you”.
Abū al-Ḥasan also recollects his memories of Dammaj of the old, the Dammaj of Shaykh Muqbil’s time of which there were many praises and recommendations from the scholars to study there. Our brother also provides an encouragement that we travel to the scholars and benefit from them even it is for a short time.
Lastly, a reminder that knowledge will never be attained by the relaxation of the limbs and that the benefits gained from seeking knowledge far outweigh the hardships.
