The Importance of Seeking Beneficial Knowledge
A very brief khuṭbah (converted from a cassette) given from Abū al-Ḥasan Mālik concerning the virtues of knowledge and the excellence in seeking it.
The author notes, "The Salaf would begin their books with the excellence and importance of knowledge. This would aid one in their diligence to seek after it."
يَرْفَعِ اللهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ
Allāh will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge.
[Sūrah al-Mujaadillah, 58:11]
The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said on the authority of ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, “The best of you are those who have learned the Qurʾān and have taught it.”Volume 6, Book 61, Number 545
Abū al-Ḥasan said, "These are from the affairs that we should desire to learn, not from the affairs of watching the television, reading the newspaper, and not from the affairs of the free speech which we find the brother too often indulged in."
Rather we should have diligence in obtaining this blessing of knowledge and spread it.
