Virtues of the Qurʾān
Shaykh Hāmid al-ʿUthmān mentions verses from the Qurʾān and narrations from the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) highlighting the virtues of the Qurʾān, showing us the importance of learning, reciting and memorising it.
Had We sent down this Qu'rān on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allāh.
[Sūrah al-Ḥashr, 59:21]
Allāh sent down this Book as an explanation for everything and as a guidance.
Bodies without the Qurʾān are like the dead, as Allāh says,
And thus We have sent to you (O Muḥammad) Rūhān (an Inspiration, and a Mercy) of Our Command.
You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qurʾān) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will.
[Sūrah al-Shūrá, 42:52]
And Ibn ʿAbbās reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, “He who does not memorize any part from the Qurʾān, he is like the ruined house.”
The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: The best amongst you are those who learn the Qurʿān and teach it.
Ibn ʿUmar reported: The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Envy is justified in regard to two types of persons only: a man whom Allāh has given knowledge of the Qurʾān, and so he recites it during the night and during the day, and a man whom Allāh has given wealth and so he spends from it during the night and during the day.”
The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allāh, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lām-Mīm is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lām is a letter and Mīm is a letter.
The Qurʾān will come as an intercessor for the one who recites it. It is reported by Abū 'Umamah that the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Recite the Qurʾān, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection
